Many students pursue a nursing degree and successfully balance a variety of non-academic responsibilities. To be a successful student, your primary focus is to devote adequate time to your studies. For every hour of academic course work, you can plan to spend approximately 3 hours a week outside the classroom to study and be prepared for class. Therefore, a 3-credit hour class would require 9 hours a week outside the classroom to accomplish homework, work on group projects, study for tests and keep up with assigned reading. Once you begin the BSN program, we suggest that if you must work that you work no more than a minimal amount of hours (e.g., up to 12 hours per week). You can always increase your hours during semester breaks and during the summer between your first and second year in the program.
